EBA/Young Bar Symposium 2026

On Friday 19th June the EBA held a Symposium showcasing the skills of the younger members of the association.  The members were mentored by senior colleagues from the EBA.  


Thea Kennedy BL was mentored mentored by Tom Mallon BL and wrote a paper on The Right to Request Remote/Hybrid Working. Emerging Caselaw and Future Possible Trends.


Aengus O'Maolain BL with assistance from Mark Connaughton SC delivered a presentation on Sham Self Employment Cases Post Karshan. This will include a focus on the interesting High Court case of Ryanair DAD v Reddy & Ors [2024] IEHC719.


Ellen Walsh BL spoke to the topic of Shield or sword? Purpose, strategy and litigation consequences of Internal Mechanisms under the Protected Disclosure Act Emerging Litigation Trends and Procedure in the WRC. while under the mentorship of Clíona Kimber SC


Adam Elbert BL mentored by Brendan Kirwan SC delivered a paper on The Equality and Family Leave (Miscellaneous Provisions Bill) An Analysis of the impact of some of the changes on discrimination claims.


Cillian McGovern BL with assistance from Mairead McKenna SC spoke to the topic of The Exceptions under the Unfair Dismissals Act and Calculation of Losses Pursuant to the 1977 Act. Caselaw and Practical Considerations.


Paola Leon mentored by Lorna Lynch SC spoke on the topic of The Interaction Between the GDPR, Employment Law Protections, and AI-Driven Decision-Making in the Workplace.
